Tiny Counselor

Our conversation last night before our bedtime story.

Me: Can I ask you a favor?
Tiny Counselor: Sure, Mommy!
Me: Can I have a bunch of hugs from you?
TC: Sure! Are you okay?
Me:  Yeah… I’m pretty sad today.
TC: WHY  Mommy??  You can tell me the truth.
Me:  *thinking about the right thing to say*
TC:  I promise I won’t tell daddy.  This will be between you and me.
Me:  Promise?
TC:  Cross my heart.
Me:  I’ve been thinking about my life lately and I feel like I made some bad choices.
TC:  Like what?  Give me one example of a bad choice you think you made.
Me:  I’ve spent more time doubting myself than believing in myself.
TC:  *looks at me surprised.  Then shifts her intensity and cups my face in her hands*  Mommy… I believe in you until you can believe in yourself.
Me:  *completely taken aback*
TC:  Mommy – what you have to do is never ever EVER give up.  And even if you do give up?  You can ALWAYS pick yourself back up and try again anyway!  Just make sure to keep trying! Okay?
Me: *trying not to cry*
TC:  I love you Mommy.  We’re going to be okay.  And remember, your secret is safe with me. *smiling a reassuring smile*
Me:  Thank you, sweet darling.

*BIG HUG*

Well… we’re not doing a half bad job, methinks.

She’s simply the best thing that has ever happened to me.
